Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Player the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.

The organization did not mention Rice by name in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Social Media

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the second round.

Police Reports Currently Not on File

No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

Rice missed the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

On the field, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
