No Kieran McKenna Celtic FC Discussions as Craig Bellamy Commits to Welsh National Team

Both have been linked with the coaching position at the Premiership title holders following Brendan Rodgers' resignation on the start of the week.

McKenna's Position on The Scottish Club

McKenna described the Glasgow giants as "an enormous soccer institution" but emphasized he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old took charge of Portman Road in recent years and led them to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they managed only a handful of victories last campaign as they were demoted back to the Championship and they currently sit twelfth place in the Championship.

"There have been such conversations," the London-born former Irish youth international said when questioned about being on the candidate list.

"It's not something I have given any thought to, or where any part of my concentration is this week.

"I have a unique position here at a special club. And we're at a crucial phase of the campaign. Everything outside of that hasn't touched my radar."

Background and Agreement Details

It has been suggested that the manager would be open to speaking to Celtic given his childhood support.

"During youth, we all have our affinities," he said when asked about those. "I don't think everyone has to publicly and declare what they were, but naturally it's a really big sports organization."

McKenna agreed to a new multi-year deal in 2024 and was asked about his alleged £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are provisions," he responded. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I approach this job like I will remain Town's coach forever. I know that's not always going to be the case, but I will consistently give maximum effort as long as I remain in position."

The Welsh Coach's Situation

Bellamy played for Celtic on temporary transfer from the Magpies in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Welsh forward is inclined to finish the current global tournament campaign, a stance that would practically eliminate the mid-forties from immediately taking the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are presently third in their World Cup group behind leaders the Red Devils and second-placed North Macedonia.

Victories over the minnows and their rivals in November would secure their place in the qualification play-offs, but they are all but assured of reaching that stage, due to a successful Nations League performance, even if they not end up Group J runners-up.

Given his present position, the Wales manager, whose agreement expires after the European Championship, would not be available until after the play-offs at the earliest.
