Preview this Remastered Classic Adventure: This Complimentary Demo for DQ7 Reimagined Debuts Soon.

Enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the launch of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined won't have to wait too much longer. An exciting demo version is set to release on Jan. 7, granting a generous look into the game's beginning segments. Critically, all progress earned within this demo can be imported directly into the full game upon its February launch.

Beyond Just a Simple Remake: The Thorough Transformation

Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined constitutes a from-scratch reimagining of the seminal year 2000 role-playing game, initially released as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a distinct departure from other Dragon Quest remakes, such as the previously launched HD-2D versions, this version embraces a striking three-dimensional aesthetic. Locales have been crafted to look like detailed model sets, with party members sporting a appealing toy-like appearance.

"Considering the previous remake, the story was still notoriously lengthy. Therefore, we came to a determination that we wanted to streamline the story, [and] craft an adventure for today's players."

Key Mechanical Changes and Modernizations

Square Enix has added a host of changes to streamline the classic experience. Among these are:

  • Quick Overworld Encounters: Similar to modern role-playing games, low-level monsters can now be defeated directly on the field eliminating the need for initiating a full traditional combat sequence.
  • Variable Battle Pace: Players have the option to accelerate battle sequences to quickly power through simpler encounters.
  • New Vocation System: One completely new vocation was introduced for this reimagining. Furthermore, characters gain the option to master a second job, greatly expanding customization depth.

Such alterations are aimed at address one of the 2000 game's frequent points of feedback: its immense playtime. The initial main quest was known to take over 100 hours to finish. This reimagined version has been expressly reworked to refine progression and reduce perceived filler.
