The global fashion leader Shein has chosen the nation of France as the place to open its debut fixed retail stores.
It will occupy concessions within major stores initially in the French capital, with subsequent openings in five additional cities such as Dijon along with Reims, Grenoble, Angers and Limoges.
The French influential global fashion market served as a natural choice for the company's pilot program for retail outlets, the brand stated.
Shein has become best known for its discounted and trendy clothes, yet has faced scrutiny regarding its ecological footprint and working conditions.
The company had earlier launched limited-time shops in locations including the Spanish and French capitals, though it hadn't run a long-term storefront.
The fresh retail spaces are being launched through a partnership alongside property management company the Societe des Grands Magasins.
The French company manages both BHV Marais as well as Galeries Lafayette retail centers that will contain described by Shein as shop-in-shop outlets.
These stores will create around 200 jobs in France, Shein said in an official release.
Adding that this joint effort aimed to breathe new life into urban centers and department stores throughout France.
By choosing France as the place to test physical shopping experiences, Shein aims to serve French shoppers along with the broader retail industry, the firm said.
This global brand, which ships to 150+ countries worldwide, has mainly functioned through digital channels through its website and app.
Established in China sixteen years ago with its headquarters in Singapore, Shein has come under examination concerning its creation of rapidly produced apparel.
The company's strategy quickly manufactures inexpensive clothing following the latest styles, yet has attracted negative attention due to its ecological consequences.
Questions have also emerged regarding labor conditions within Shein's supply chain.
An examination published in 2024 by the Swiss organization Public Eye discovered that workers in some suppliers in the past labored for 75 weekly hours, although the company vowed to enhance working environments.
