Southern California Battles Record-Breaking Heat Just One Week Following Major Winter Weather.

After enduring torrential rains that resulted in floodwaters across parts of the city, the City of Angels is now grappling with unseasonably high temperatures for this time of year.

All-Time High Heat

On Friday midday, the mercury reached 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in the city center, as reported by weather officials. This easily surpasses the prior high for this date, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was recorded in 2025.

"Exceptionally warm weather" were labeled on official maps for the region.

Public Health Advisories

Forecasters stated that Friday's heat posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their guidance suggested:

• Staying hydrated.
• Avoiding outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
• Never leaving anyone unattended in a parked vehicle.

A Sharp Reversal

This sudden spike in heat follows closely after a massive winter storm that struck the area recently. That system delivered thunderstorms, high winds, and heavy snow to the mountains, triggering mudslide risks for countless residents.

Sadly, the conditions also caused a massive avalanche in the Tahoe area, which resulted in nine fatalities.

Temperatures Easing

Looking ahead some relief will arrive. Readings were expected to fall to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in central Los Angeles by Friday night.

Other locales that reached ninety degrees featured Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Additionally, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were expected to reach the upper eighties.

For the weekend, downtown LA can expect readings in the eighties, with cooler weather on tap for the following week.
