A teenage youth was found dead just days after being falsely accused of taking the ashes of a deceased infant during a break-in, an inquest has learned.
The young boy's parents found his remains in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay residence on 19 November 2021.
The investigation learned how his mother received a communication on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a individual asking if her son was her child. The message stated: "Inform him appreciation for burgling my flat."
In a testimony read to the court, the mother said the woman had been in the news, asserting her baby's remains had been stolen in a burglary - a allegation which was false.
An official inquiry from police later concluded the supposed burglary complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the property was never taken in the first place".
Media reports about the alleged stolen ashes generated social media responses, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his parent said individuals "knew it was him".
The "social media content were really upsetting", she stated.
She added that Kai had been identified with mild attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other individuals' opinions genuinely mattered to him.
"This must have hurt him deeply," she commented, "particularly when this was not true".
The teenager was arrested at his residence, but nothing was found. He was taken to a police station and later released pending further inquiry.
Police said they would be in contact, the hearing learned, but had not contacted the family by the moment of his death.
His mother said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like days".
When she talked to him about the alleged incident, she said her son informed her he had gone into the house because the woman who lived there had said he could use the toilet anytime he wanted, but denied removing anything.
In a combined testimony between her and her spouse, the mother said her child was being bullied online after the allegations.
The inquest learned that one young adult encouraged Kai to kill himself.
She had no concerns on the night before he passed away, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and joking".
She described him as a "compassionate, loving" boy, and said her "family is totally shattered".
He had been "clearly hiding his worries", she said, noting that he could not bear to have anybody "think bad of him".
The hearing heard from school staff at the local High School.
On November 8th, she "overheard some boys discussing that the student had been detained and that was the first I learned".
"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.
After the conversation, the staff member said she rang Kai's parents' landline and provided a voicemail saying she had communicated to Kai about the accusations.
The proceedings learned his family said they never receive that communication.
Senior investigator told the hearing he would await documents regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with suspects with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a prevention of subsequent deaths report.
Providing a descriptive finding, he said: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsupported allegations were made against the teenager, a young child.
"Probably falsehoods were subsequently embellished and exaggerated through the platform of social media.
"During 11 November, he was questioned by the police and after his questioning he was released whilst inquiries continued."
The coroner concluded: "Exists no proof that the acts or omissions of any agency caused or contributed to his passing and although it was the result of a personal action it is not possible to discern his intent."
