The United Kingdom Ready to Use Seized Russian Assets to Finance the Ukrainian Military Campaign

The UK is set to progress with employing the full worth of frozen Russian funds to support the Ukrainian military campaign, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a collective announcement, the officials of the UK, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany emphasized that this joint measure would increase strain on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and urge Russia to come to the table.

They clarified that the decision would be executed in strong partnership with the US.

British restrictions have frozen more than £25bn of Russian resources since the Russian government launched its full-scale invasion against Ukraine in 2022. But, up to this point, resources allocated to Ukraine using Russia's assets had exclusively been drawn from gains and dividends generated on them.

Sir Keir assured Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, the French Republic, and Germany were united in their aim to push forward toward utilizing the total worth of the seized Russia's state holdings to end the war.

He noted that further restrictions soon would increase the strain on Moscow.

This announcement follows EU representatives convened in the Danish capital previously to consider using seized Russia's holdings for a 140-billion-euro credit to the Ukrainian nation.

Recently, American leader Donald Trump urged international partners to take or utilize frozen Russian holdings, according to reports.

The worth of seized Russian holdings in the European Union is estimated to be nearly €211bn.

Russia carried out widespread aerial attacks across Ukraine on that day, leading to power cuts in many areas of Ukraine's capital, the city, and eight other regions.

Two people were killed and no fewer than 20 people were hurt in the assault, the Ukrainian government stated.

In a post on an online platform following the strike, Zelensky wrote that the cynical and calculated attack targeted non-military and power facilities.

"The necessity is not just talk but concrete steps - from the America, the European Union, and the seven nations - in supplying defense mechanisms and applying sanctions," he emphasized.

"Each restrictive measure undermines the Russian war effort," Zelensky noted, in a separate post.

Additionally that day, Zelensky told the press he would press Sir Keir to participate in the PURL programme, under which partner nations acquire military equipment from the United States to provide to Ukraine.
