The veteran manager announces he is on the verge of being appointed Benfica manager after arriving in Lisbon for talks with the Portuguese club.
Mourinho is poised to replace Bruno Lage, who was dismissed following Tuesday's Champions League home defeat against the Azerbaijani side.
The 62-year-old has only been out of work for less than a month after being dismissed by the Turkish outfit.
"Benfica formally asked me if I was interested. Which manager says no to Benfica? Not me," he told the media after arriving in Lisbon. "When I was presented with the opportunity to coach them, I jumped at the chance to say that I'm interested, that I'd want to."
Mourinho began his managerial career with the club in the year 2000 but managed only 10 games and departed after a dispute with the club president.
Mourinho then made his name with Porto between 2002-2004, winning six trophies - among them the Champions League in 2003-04.
Since leaving his native country in 2004, Mourinho has managed the Blues, Inter, Los Blancos, United, Spurs, AS Roma and Fenerbahce.
He left the Istanbul side on 29 August, two days after they were knocked out from the UCL qualifiers by Benfica.
If Benfica appoint Mourinho, he would face the London club in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge on 30 September.
The team also travel to Newcastle and host the Spanish giants later in the league phase of the tournament.
